Hōyō-ji
The 29th temple of the Aizu Thirty-Three Kannon. It is the second oldest temple in Aizu, following Eiryū-ji in Aizubange Town.
It is said that many practitioners once lived here due to the prosperity of the Shugendō, and it boasted significant influence with 33 halls.
The main deity, the Eleven-Headed Kannon statue, is enshrined as a hidden Buddha.
The temple grounds feature wooden Kongōrikishi statues, tiger tail cherry blossoms, and many cultural properties including the oldest pagoda in Aizu and a bronze bell from the Muromachi period, making the three-story pagoda a sight to behold.
