Isasumi Shrine

Isasumi Shrine

Area: Aizumisato Town

Recommended Time: Year-round

As the Ichinomiya of Iwashiro Province and the guardian deity of Aizu, it boasts a history of over 2000 years and possesses valuable treasures such as important cultural properties designated by the national and prefectural governments. Many traditional events, including the "Otaue Matsuri," a nationally designated important intangible folk cultural asset and one of Japan's three rice planting festivals, have been passed down through generations. The sacred area of about 20,000 tsubo, which preserves Aizu's primeval forest, is home to the shrine's sacred tree, the "Usuzumi Sakura," one of the "Aizu Five Cherry Blossoms," and the prefectural natural monument "Hiryuu no Fuji," as well as the colorful iris flowers blooming in the outer garden "Ayame-en."
