【Aizu Great Buddha and the Path of Prayer】 The ancient temple 'Koyama Sanboin Ganjōji' protected by successive feudal lords
In the 3rd year of the Karoku era (1227), the high disciple of Honen, Ryukan Rushi, founded 'Koyama Sanboin Ganjōji' with the local lord, Sahara Juro Yoshinori, as the main patron. After being destroyed in the Great Earthquake of Keicho, it was restored with the generous support of successive lords, including the Aizu lord Masayuki Hoshina, and remains a famous temple embodying the deep faith of the people of Aizu.

The main attraction of the temple is the 'Aizu Great Buddha (Seated Amida Nyorai)' which stands about 2.4m tall and was created during the Kamakura period.
