【Blooming in the countryside, six hundred years of elegance】 The solitary vitality spun by the 'Ishibe Cherry Blossom'

In the middle of a rice field in Ichinomiya Town, Aizuwakamatsu City, there stands a giant tree that spreads out like a forest, not far from Mount Iimori. The 'Ishibe Cherry Blossom', believed to be around six hundred years old, is counted among the Five Cherry Blossoms of Aizu and got its name from the garden of Ishibe Jibu Daisuke, a high-ranking retainer of the Ashina clan who once ruled this area. Standing alone in the flat land with nothing to obstruct its view, it is a living witness that has watched over the rise and fall of Aizu's history.

■ A 'magnificent dome' woven by ten trunks

The most notable feature of the Ishibe Cherry Blossom is its unique and powerful tree shape.

  • Spread of life: Dividing into ten trunks near the ground, its branches spread wide in all directions, creating a 'flower dome' that reaches about twenty meters in diameter when in full bloom.
  • Translucent pale pink: The variety is Edohigan. Blooming slightly earlier and lasting longer than Somei Yoshino, its petals are delicate yet hold the strength of life that has survived the harsh winter.

■ An 'exquisite borrowed scenery' overlooking Mount Bandai

The reason this cherry blossom is called 'miraculous beauty' lies in its harmony with the surrounding location.

  • Contrast with remaining snow: In the background of the cherry blossoms stands Mount Bandai, a symbol of Aizu, while at its feet lies a rice field just filled with water. The scene of the blue sky, white mountains, and pale pink cherry blossoms reflecting on the water surface can truly be said to be the original landscape of the Japanese heart.

When the wind blows, petals dance in the unchanged tranquility of six hundred years, carrying the breath of history. Under this famous tree, known for gracing the opening of a historical drama, why not listen closely to the 'beautiful heartbeat of life' that has been passed down through time?
