Bandai Atami Onsen, boasting a history of over 800 years as the hidden retreat of Koriyama. Known as 'the Atami of Tohoku' since ancient times, this place has healed many travelers, and a dramatic legend surrounding a princess continues to be told.
During the Nanboku-chō period, Princess Hagi, a noblewoman from Kyoto, was suffering from a severe illness. One night, guided by Fudo Myoo, she received a prophecy: 'Head to Tohoku and seek the Five Hundredth River.' After much hardship, she finally found a sacred spring bubbling by the banks of the Five Hundredth River. It is said that upon bathing there, the princess immediately overcame her illness and regained her unparalleled beauty. The name 'Five Hundred River' flowing through the hot spring town is derived from this journey of salvation.
As if to validate the legend, the spring quality is known as 'the hot spring that creates beauty.'
The Marumori Power Plant, which retains the charm of modern industrial heritage, and the babbling of the Five Hundred River showing the expressions of the four seasons. In this place where history and nature intersect, why not experience the 'emotion of regeneration' that Princess Hagi must have felt?
